WILDWOOD — Cape May County is moving ahead with the purchase of 321 East Cedar Avenue in Wildwood, a property steps from the Boardwalk, with an eye toward parking for visitors and local businesses.

The Board of County Commissioners adopted Bond Ordinance 4-2026 on Oct. 13. It appropriates $4.5 million to acquire the property and authorizes up to $4,285,714 in county bonds or notes to pay for part of the cost. The ordinance was introduced Sept. 22. The same Oct. 13 agenda carried a resolution authorizing the county to sign a contract to buy the property.

An ad hoc committee that includes the City of Wildwood and the Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement and Development Authority (GWTIDA) will help shape parking plans for the site, the county said.

"The Wildwoods are a major economic engine for our entire county," Commissioner Director Leonard C. Desiderio said in a statement. "Securing this property near the Boardwalk positions us to help protect and grow visitor access and parking as land values rise. It's a smart investment in the future of our tourism economy."

Any future parking facility would be designed to pay for itself, with revenue covering the purchase, operations and related costs, according to the county.
