Editorial Standards
Accuracy
We report what we can confirm. When something isn't confirmed, we say so, and we correct mistakes openly.
Sourcing
We say where information comes from: officials, public records, agency statements or people who were there. We rarely rely on unnamed sources, and say why when we do.
Independence
Cape May Scanner is independently owned. No agency, official or sponsor reviews or approves a story before it is published.
Scanner traffic
The scanner pages carry public-safety radio as dispatchers and responders say it. It is unverified — what was said at the moment, not a confirmed account — and it is labeled that way.
Medical calls are shown without their address. Our stories don't publish private home addresses or medical details about the people involved.
A scanner call alone is never the basis for a story. We confirm with the agency or another source first.
