RIO GRANDE, Oct. 26, 2026 — George's Place West, the breakfast and lunch restaurant at 1050 Route 47 South in Rio Grande, will close after Sunday, Nov. 1, the restaurant announced on Facebook.
"This wasn't an easy decision," the restaurant wrote. "To us, GP West has always been so much more than a business."
The announcement did not say why the location is closing. The owners said they "look forward to sharing updates about our next chapter soon."
Guests with gift cards that expire at the end of the year should use them before Nov. 1, the restaurant said. Anyone unsure how or where to use a remaining card can message the restaurant on Facebook Messenger.
George's Place West opened in March 2023 as the newest of the Kara Restaurant Group's George's Place restaurants, according to the group's website. The group also runs George's Place in Cape May, Cape May Court House and Wildwood Crest, and the Rio Grande closing announcement did not mention them.
The group bills George's Place as "a family tradition since 1968." Yianni Karapanagiotis turned the original Cape May corner diner into a local destination starting in 2002, and it was featured on "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives," the website says.
