CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE, Oct. 30, 2026 — A former Middle Township teacher has pleaded guilty in Cape May County Superior Court to second-degree endangering the welfare of a child with sexual conduct, according to the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office.
Laura Caron, 36, of Cape May Court House, entered the plea Oct. 28, Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland said.
Caron was first charged Jan. 15, 2025, and indicted June 17, 2025, after an investigation by detectives from the Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Unit, the office said. The investigation began after it was reported that Caron had a sexual relationship with a male juvenile, according to the Prosecutor's Office.
Under the plea, Caron faces a 5-year sentence in New Jersey State Prison and must forfeit her teaching license and all future public employment, the office said.
Before she serves the prison term, Caron will be evaluated at the Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center at Avenel to determine whether she is repetitive and/or compulsive, which could affect her sentence, according to the Prosecutor's Office.
After her classification and prison term, she will be required to register under Megan's Law and will be subject to parole supervision for life, the office said.
If the Avenel evaluation is completed, Caron is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 8, 2027, by Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Waldman, according to the Prosecutor's Office.
Sutherland thanked the detectives involved in the investigation, the office said.
