CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE, Oct. 30, 2026 — A former teacher's aide at Woodbine Elementary School has been charged following a monthslong investigation into allegations of sexual assault and child sexual abuse material, according to the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office.

Shaun M. Stebbins, 44, of Somers Point, was charged Oct. 30, Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland said.

In April 2026, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office and the Somers Point Police Department notified the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office that a sexual assault investigation involving Stebbins revealed crimes also occurring in Cape May County, the office said. The three agencies then worked together on the investigation.

A search of Stebbins' devices revealed numerous images and videos of students from Woodbine Elementary School, according to the Prosecutor's Office. The office said Stebbins worked at the school as a teacher's aide from February 2022 until his arrest in Atlantic County on March 29, 2026.

Stebbins is charged with 29 counts of manufacturing child pornography and five counts of aggravated sexual assault, both first-degree crimes, according to the Prosecutor's Office. He is also charged with 13 counts of sexual assault by sexual contact and 14 counts of endangering the welfare of a child, both second-degree crimes, the office said.

Stebbins remains in the Atlantic County Correctional Facility pending court proceedings, according to the Prosecutor's Office.

Under New Jersey law, a first-degree crime may carry 10 to 20 years in state prison, and a second-degree crime typically carries 5 to 10 years, the office said.

"Children are among our most vulnerable population and we have a responsibility to protect their safety and well-being," Sutherland said. "Anyone who harms a child will be held accountable through our justice system."

The investigation remains ongoing, the office said. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Unit at (609) 465-1135 or anonymously on the Prosecutor's Office website at cmcpo.tips.

Charges are allegations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
