AVALON, Nov. 6, 2026 — Avalon's beach fill and the dredging of the Townsends Inlet navigation channel both finished Tuesday, Nov. 3, the borough says.

The beach fill placed 1,201,259 cubic yards of sand on Avalon's north end beaches. Crews also removed about 130,000 cubic yards of sand from the inlet's navigation channel, according to the borough.

Beach paths from 12th to 14th streets stayed closed as the work wrapped up. Final sand quantities were to be calculated Wednesday before the operation moves to Stone Harbor by the end of this week.

All equipment is expected to be in Stone Harbor by Nov. 14, with every beach path in Avalon open by then, the borough says.

The channel work was the $1.6 million emergency dredging that Sea Isle City and Avalon agreed to split in October to clear a sandbar under the Townsends Inlet Bridge. It used the dredge already working in the inlet for Avalon's beach fill. Stone Harbor said earlier that construction vehicles would head to its 122nd Street beach lot as crews mobilize there.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded the Avalon beach fill contract, about $15.8 million, to Norfolk Dredging in June. Pumping began Sept. 1.
